MSU engineering student develops app to help students and faculty find campus parking

In recent years Murray State students and faculty have expressed concerns over the amount of parking on campus. Just last year the Board of Regents announced the new nursing building will be built north of Faculty Hall–an area that is currently being used for parking.

Murray State electromechanical engineering student Boaz Burnett has developed a mobile app called “MSU Smart Park.” The app helps users manage their parking accounts and helps them identify parking lots on campus. He started the project as a sophomore and his ideas of helping those on campus find available parking are coming to fruition.

Boaz Burnett studies electromechanical engineering at Murray State. He hopes MSU Smart Park continues after he graduates in May of 2024.

Beginning in 2019, students have been required to manage their parking accounts via myGate. 62% of students who Burnett interviewed for a survey said they were unhappy with the way parking is managed on campus.

Burnett said he wants as many people as possible to download the app and take advantage of its services.

“This is an app I really would have liked to have as a freshman,” Burnett said. “There’s a lot of information issues with the parking situation at Murray State and I feel like a software solution is currently the best approach to resolve this.”

MSU Smart Park is available to download on the Apple app store.
